Saugus Tree Committee to hold annual spring maintenance/tree planting

Monday Apr 8, 2019 at 8:00 AM

The Saugus Tree Committee submitted the following press release

Come join us for spring tree maintenance and planting on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

We need help at the Saugus Tree Farm getting ready to plant trees out on our streets and at our parks. We also need to check out the trees we planted last fall. Come for an hour or two or help all day!

The trees need you and so does the Saugus Tree Committee!

On Saturday, April 27, the Saugus Tree Committee is holding its annual spring tree maintenance/tree planting at the Saugus Tree Farm located off Jasper Street in Saugus Center. We invite everyone interested in getting their hands dirty while constructively ensuring the growth and development of our homegrown trees.

In addition, for students this will be a great project while completing some worthwhile community service (a graduation requirement).

This event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and light refreshments and drinks will be included. Further information will be gladly given if you call Nancy Prag at 781-231-9531, Margery Hunter at 781-233-0349, Tim Hawkes at 781-233-6428 or Ann Devlin at 781-233-5717. Come join us. We need help weeding and planting.

We suggest that you wear work clothes, and bring some work gloves, a hat, boots (as it may be muddy), and sunscreen/bug spray. If you have trowels, shovels or hoes, please bring them along but label them.

With a little TLC the trees we are growing to plant around town will make a difference in the air we breathe and in the beautification of Saugus. Your help is appreciated.

Directions to Saugus Tree Farm: take Jasper Street (off Central Street) then take a right, which is Cross Street (the sign says "to Auburn Street"). Bear left onto Auburn Street. The walkthrough driveway is between 25 and 27 Auburn St. (which is the town right of way) to the Tree Farm. You may park near 27 Auburn St. (Pioneer Sales Building), then walk down driveway to right of building, over railroad tracks and follow dirt road to tree farm. You can also try to drive all the way down (space is limited).
